In the Sanctuary

Psalm 22:22
22 I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.

It has become a popular trend in the world of social media to make “reaction” videos. This is where someone will watch a video or listen to a song for the first time and record themselves reacting, positively or negatively, to what they are seeing or hearing for the first time. Other people will then watch them react and respond to their emotion. It sounds silly, but if you take a moment to think about it, it makes all the sense in the world.

We were created by God to share our emotions and feelings with one another. Built into the fabric of our being is the need to express emotion and to be seen. We enjoy praising and cheering alongside one another, and when we feel sadness there is comfort when someone is there to acknowledge our tears.

All in all, the Lord created us for one another. We were created for community. And God encourages us to gather as a community to approach His throne together in praise.

The assembling of people for worship in the name of the Lord extends back to the time when God instructed the Jews to build a dwelling place for Him. The Tabernacle was the place where God’s presence could reside among the people. They could assemble around it and be unified in worship as the High Priest would enter into the Holy of Holies.

In Hebrews 13 we are encouraged to continue meeting together and worshipping together as a body. The sanctuary of your church should be a place of refuge and safety. A place where you feel closer to God and are free to praise His name in gladness, or cry out to Him in tears.

When we freely express our love and admiration for the Lord in a public worship setting, among fellow believers, it truly reveals how deep our love for the Lord runs. And it invites others to not only see our outward expressions of love, but to react in an encouraging, God-honoring way. Some of my favorite memories of being with Jesus have taken place In the Sanctuary!

Heavenly Father, I love to be in your sanctuary worshipping with fellow believers. Thank you for the body of Christ. I pray that I never take your people for granted. Amen

The portion of your conversation about love, and loving Jesus gave me this pause for reflection. As you mentioned that a view of love of a spouse, among other things,  includes sex, and that can be seen as a very “here and now” view.  I submit that the love of a spouse is very much like loving Jesus with a mutually useful semantic: Both are based on intimacy, but I define intimacy here by two very important, different, and very deep relationships.  As we celebrate every day of our 53 years together, our bond continues as a precious gift. Our relationship with Jesus is also based on a personal and continuing love of one who suffered a cruel and tragic…
