We Haven't Hit Yet!

Psalm 35:8-9

8 Let destruction come upon him when he does not know it! And let the net that he hid ensnare him; let him fall into it to his destruction. 9 Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord, exulting in his salvation.

A man walked into a park and stumbled upon a little league baseball game in action. It was only the top of the first inning but the visiting team had already put a bunch of runs on the scoreboard. The man felt bad for the home team because they were falling so far behind early in the game, but at the same time he noticed that the players on the field stayed positive and kept playing hard.

When the third out of the inning was recorded players in the field sprinted off the field with excitement. The man walked over to the dugout fence and said to one of the boys, “Your team is so positive, how do you guys have such a great attitude when you are down so many runs?” The boy got a big grin on his face and said, “Because we haven’t hit yet!”

30 Devotions on Biblical Mindset

Do you feel like the enemy has been scoring a lot of runs against you lately? Do you feel like you’re falling way behind in this game of life? Well, take a note from this story cause the Lord is about to go to bat for you!

In Psalm 35 David cries out for the Lord to avenge His people from enemies who seem to be winning. For David it feels unjust and unfair that those who are evil seem to have so much success over God’s people. But in verse 9 David interrupts the negative narrative and calls out the truth. Our verse for today declares his total confidence in God and the victory that is to come. “My soul will rejoice in the Lord, exulting in His salvation.”

Know this, my friend, God may let injustice reign for a season, but He will bring it to an end. This should give you great joy, knowing that God has your back and will bring victory from the ashes of defeat. Whenever you feel like you are on the losing end of things and enemies are gaining too much ground over your life, remember this, God hasn’t hit yet!

God is a God of comebacks, and the rally is on the way. He has already won and soon you will be exulting in His salvation!

Dear Lord, I rejoice because you will bring victory. Please help me in the struggle to keep a smile on my face. I know that when you speak victory is coming. In Your Name, Amen.
