When Life Overwhelms

ree

Psalm 61:1-2 (ESV)

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

One of the best tools in Batman's arsenal is the grappling gun. In almost every tv show and movie that features Batman you will see him placed in a situation where his only way of escape is up. It will appear that Batman is trapped by his enemies, but does he panic? Nope! He's Batman!

The grappling gun comes out and he shoots it into the sky. The hook anchors to something in the heavens, Batman attaches the gun to his belt, and he escapes into the sky. Boom!

That is the exact picture I want you to have in your mind when your life gets overwhelming and you cry out to God for a way of escape. Psalm 61 is a grappling gun for the believer, reminding you to anchor up to the Lord.

Prayer is God's prescription for the overwhelmed life. The Lord invites you to look up and engage Him in conversation. By doing so your heart and mind will be lifted out of your present situation and placed upon a rock that is "higher than I."

When you have a conversation with God and dwell in His presence you will be given a 30,000 foot view of your circumstances. James 4:8 tells us that when we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. Which means God is essentially lifting us out of our situation so we can see how much bigger He is than our problems!

In Pslam 61 David had reached a place of desperation. He cried out to God in earnest prayer because he didn't know what else to do. "Life" had him surrounded. Can you relate to feeling like you are "at the end of the earth" and your "heart is faint"?

We ALL can!

When your feeling this way, let Psalm 61 lift you up and anchor you to God's heavenly view. When life seems to overwhelm you with a flood of too many problems to solve and situations that are out of your control, ANCHOR UP!

Prayer is your "grappling gun" that can be shot into the heavens. Attach it to your belt (Belt of Truth) and let the Lord do the rest. In His Word He promises to be our refuge and strength, a help in times of trouble. (Psalm 46)

Okay, let me wrap this up. Think about it like this. Prayer makes you Batman! Do you understand that? You're BATMAN!!!!!!!

If that doesn't bring a smile to your face I don't know what will.
