Words Matter

Psalm 33:99 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
Nothing is too difficult for the Lord. Do you believe that? All it takes is His Word and it will be done. Often times I ask myself, “If all the Lord needs to do is speak, then why doesn’t He just start talking for me?”
Maybe the answer is He's ready for me to start talking to Him. I believe if we understand the mountain-moving power of prayer we would do it more often and prayer meetings wouldn't be empty.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. How? His Word. John 1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” There is a whole lot to be said of the Word. Which is why I believe Jesus spoke so often of “asking and praying in His Name” which involves using your words!
I am currently reading through Proverbs and I am struck by how many times the power of the words is mentioned.
Proverbs 18:21
Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
With that in mind let’s consider the power of prayer as we lift our voices to the Lord. What words are coming out of your mouth when you speak to God? Do they contain life and belief? Are they filled with hope and expectation? Psalm 33:9 reminds us that all God needs to do is speak and it will come to be. This bring me to the words of Jesus in John 14:12-13:
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
Now, we can sit here and debate all day on whether we believe what Jesus is saying in this verse is true. We can go back and forth on all the times we prayed and didn’t receive the answer we wanted. Or, we can let the words of Jesus fill our hearts with confidence and faith so that it overflows out of our mouths. (Luke 6:45)
Words matter. God said so.
Dear Heavenly Father, I know that whatever You say will be done. Fill me with faith and confidence to approach Your throne with hope and expectation. In Jesus Name, Amen.
