Your Heart's Desire

Psalm 21:2
2 You have given him his heart's desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah

The familiar language of receiving your heart’s desire is a theme that will be revisited time and again in scripture. Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart,” is probably the most often quoted passage. Some read these verses and understand them to mean that God will give you whatever you want as long as your happy to ask Him. But take a closer look at the entirety of Psalm 21. The chapter is built on examining the heart of a King whose joy has been placed in the Lord. He knows that his help comes from the Lord, and the very crown that he wears was placed on his head by God.

Therefore, the desire of the heart in this King is to honor the Lord in all the he does. He is not asking for things that will bring personal happiness, riches, and fame, but things that will bring glory and honor to his Lord and Savior. He wants to put a smile on God’s face as his heart’s desire is a Godly-desire.

In all that we say and do we should do it for the glory of God. Scripture tells us that God examines our hearts. He knows our thoughts, our hopes and dreams. Not only that, He knows our intentions!

With that thought in mind we should make it a daily prayer for God to give us a heart that desires what His heart desires. I believe it is this prayer that brings about God’s hand of blessing, provision, and a joy that can only be found in the Lord.

There is never-ending joy in the heart of one who knows their salvation comes from the Lord. Think about this way, when Jesus truly becomes the desire of your heart, a joyful song of praise and prayer will overflow in your heart and God will be more than happy to move heavy and heart to meet your heart’s desire.

Oh Lord, whom have I in heaven but You. There is nothing I desire, but you! Make this the song of my heart. Amen
