The lord is Here to Help

Psalm 81:11-12 (NIV)

11 “But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

When my oldest son grew from an infant to a toddlet he began to explore the house and enjoy his independence. He loved doing everything on his own. Playing with toys, putting together puzzles, and building lego sets became his favorite pasttime. Whenever his mother and I would try to help he would push us away and say, "I do."

I always laughed and backed off, but I let him know that his father was there to help.

As he matured into his teenage years he began to understand the wisdom in accepting help from mom and dad when he needed it most. More importantly, he saw how beneficial it was to reach out and ask for help instead of trying to do everything on his own. We were his allies!

In Psalm 81 we see that the people of Israel had made a habit out of not listening to the Lord's voice. They pursued pagan gods and worshipped false idols. They would seek counsel from pagan nations and reject the wisdom of the Lord and His prophets.

They essentially pushed the Lord away and said, "I do."

God let them do it, and it led to their downfall. God gave them over to their stubborn ways and their enemies wasted no time in exploiting their weaknesses and lack of wisdom.

My friends, the wisdom of the Lord is available in His Word. When you leave your Bible on the bookshelf to collect dust you are telling God that your ways are better than His ways. But I assure you, your ways are not better...and the last thing you want for God to do is say, "Okay, have it your way."

Embrace His wisdom and follow His guidance through His written word. It is full of divine wisdom and guidance.

The Lord is here to help.
