One True god
Psalm 96:4-5 (ESV)
4 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
God is real.
He exists.
The Lord created the heavens and the earth.
Deuteronomy 6:4 is known as the Shema, the central declaration of faith in Judaism. "Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One."
The One True God not only created the heavens and the earth, He also created you. He gave you your life and formed you in the womb with His hands. (Psalm 139:13) Idols, on the other hand, are created by us. They are worthless because they are the product of our own design.
There's a well known story in 1 Kings 18 about Elijah confronting the prophets of Baal. Elijah challenged the prophets to worship their god and ask him to rain down fire from the sky. Those prophets danced, cut themselves, and performed every ritual they could think of to get a response from their idol. But nothing happened.
Why?
Because they were crying out to nothing. Baal was just a name with no existence. A figment of their imagination. An idol with no power. Worthless.
When Elijah stepped forward and called on the One True God to show His power, fire came down from heaven and put on a show. If you ever find yourself thinking the One True God doesn't exist, is just a figment of someone's imagination, or is just a man-made fairy tale...well, go ahead and cry out to God and ask Him to prove He exists. But you better pay attention, cause His power will be shown.
The Bible tells us that all creation is God's handiwork and He is greatly to be praised, and the best part is He makes Himself available to be known by us. Now that's a praiseworthy thought!

Psalm 96:4 in the Old and John 3:16 in the new -at least in my mind - present two colliding, deeply human emotions when attributions are made to God: fear and love. For me, gimme the four Gospels, Acts, the Letters, and the Revelation. They have fed my faith unwaveringly. That’s just me sayin.
