time is short

Psalm 102:11 (ESV)

11 My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.

Grass is often used in the Bible to depict the shortness of life. It grows and it withers. Right now I can look out my front window and see grass that is brown and dying. We haven't had a lot of rain in recent months and the effects are showing.

Life can be the same way. It begins, we live. Then it ends.

Recently I attended the funeral of a close friend and the thought crossed my mind, the longer I live the more I will see the people I care about pass away. A hard reality of life is understanding the inevitability of death.

Okay, enough of these depressing thoughts...

There are two ways to respond to your days withering like grass. You can get depressed about the situation and count down the days with a frown on your face. Or, you can take heart and embrace the reality of Jesus in your life. He knows the number of your days and with His guidance you can make the most of every day you have left!

In John 10:10 Jesus said that He came to give life and for life in Him to be lived to the fullest. I don't see anywhere in scripture where God tells us to sit around and sulk.

For the first 11 verses of Psalm 102 there is almost a "pouting" about life passing so quickly, but verse 12 becomes the turnaround verse!

Psalm 102:12 (ESV)

12 But you, O Lord, are enthroned forever; you are remembered throughout all generations.

Even though our time in this life is short, you can take heart in knowing that the Lord you worship and serve is enthroned forever, and through Jesus, forever is made available to all who believe in Him.

Let that thought sink in. For the Christian, there isn't an end. Time doesn't matter anymore because you are living in the "forever" that Jesus purchased for you. Praise God! Excuse me a moment while I rejoice in that thought. Have a great weekend and enjoy your life in Christ!
