When a Narcissist Attacks

Psalm 35:19
Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes, and let not those wink the eye who hate me without cause.
Sometimes people can be mean, and it's truly devastating when the hurt is caused by those who should love us most. I'd like to think that no one wakes up in the morning with cruel intentions, but I've lived long enough to see the worst of this fallen, sinful world. The truth is we live in a world where some choose evil and treat each other in the worst way. Their hearts are cold and stuck on hate. Their words cause deep emotional pain, and their actions are impossible to understand.
Many of us have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a narcissist. A person who lacks empathy for others and sees everyone else as the problem. In their mind they are the “main character” of life and they will emotionally (or physically) harm anyone who is deemed a threat to their self-aggrandizing behavior.
In a narcissists world everyone exists to serve them, admire them, and honor them. A narcissist will never take responsibility for their actions and they will go to great lengths to blame everyone else for their behavior, no matter the cost. I believe a narcissist is aware of the destruction they are causing, but they are fully convinced that they are serving the greater good. And if the plan goes wrong? They play the victim and “wink their eye” as they elicit sympathy from unknowing individuals.
How can God's Word comfort us when we encounter a situation like this?
I highly encourage you to read Psalm 35:17-28. In these verses David is dealing with painful slander from enemies. Their accusations were unjust, unfair, painful, and spoken in an attempt to completely destroy David's reputation. He cries out to God for protection and deliverance. You can hear the frustration in his opening words, "How long, O Lord, will you look on? Rescue me from their destruction. Awake and rouse yourself for my vindication, for my cause, my God and my Lord!"
Have you ever felt the unfair wrath of an enemy?
Do you know what it feels like to be blindsided by someone and thrown “under the bus” when it was for their benefit?
If so, my heart hurts for you and I am so sorry!
Please know the Lord sees you, knows your struggle, and hears your prayers.
I pray God will sustain you and give you strength as you endure the attacks. I pray you will one day find peace and healing will begin.
Know this, my friend, God is working on your behalf. He will right the wrongs spoken against you. The Lord is fair and just. He will bring truth into the light and you will be vindicated. You will have peace again. In Jesus Name, believe it.
Lord Jesus, defend the defenseless from the lies of an enemy. Bring vindication. Bring comfort and peace. And bring healing. "I will tell of your righteousness and sing Your praises all the day long." In Jesus Name, Amen
