Psalm 22:1
22 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
Have you ever taken the time to deeply ponder the promise from God that He will never leave you nor forsake you?
In Deuteronomy 31:6 God makes this promise to the nation of Israel and Joshua before they enter the Promised Land. He will not leave them. Jesus assures us in John 14:16 that the Father will send the Holy Spirit to be with believers forever. He will not leave us. Hebrews 13:5 teaches us that Jesus has promised to “never leave us nor forsake us.”
Psalm 22:1 Deuteronomy 31:6 John 14:16 Hebrews 13:5
I have just given you four examples from God’s Word of His unwavering devotion to always be with you. My friend, you are never alone! He will not leave you as an orphan. Whenever you feel lonely remember this.
The promise of eternity with God is made possible through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. But let me share with you something very important about the sacrifice Jesus made, because it was His sacrifice that make today’s promise possible. It was not the cruelty and pain of the cross that paid for our salvation. It was Jesus’ spiritual “taking on of sin” that caused His Father to turn His face from His Son. Jesus cried out in response, “My God, why have You forsaken me?”
Think about this, the very promise you have from Jesus to never leave you nor forsake you is the very punishment that Jesus had to endure in His death on the cross!
Jesus literally took on hell, which is to be forsaken by His Father, all so that believers in Him would never have to face the same punishment. Praise Jesus, I could never thank you enough for saving me and never forsaking me. I love you, Jesus!
You saw to it that I would never be alone.
Dear Jesus, you truly took on the worst punishment imaginable. Thank you for enduring it all so I would never have to. Amen
